Batterina has always dreamed of becoming a Ballerina. However, this proved difficult because ballet teachers are notoriously frightened of little bats and all would run away screaming “Eeeeek! Keep it out of my hair!” But tonight her dream will come true, as she dances at the Halloween Ball as
Batterina the Ballerina!

Creating Batterina began last Sunday with morning coffee.

This was my first pass at an idea. Then I began to see her a little more clearly in my mind (caffeine kicked in) and began to refine her.

My sketch began to “shape up” and I chose my colour pallet. Then I began to paint.

I am a firm believer in recycling, and I recycled some bits & bobs from a previous work. I had a deadline after all, Halloween! Batterina’s Ball came together at last and she, along with all of her friends wish you a delightful and dream come true Halloween!

  4. What a cutie Batterina is! I love your drawings and what you write about your inspiration and explanations of how you draw them. I welcome Batterina as the bats at my home have flown south. After seeing them feed from my hummingbird feeder, I finally realized why it was empty every morning.

      Really, I had no idea bats would use a feeder, that is great. I didn’t know they flew south! Now I just have to look all of this up and find out more!

    1. Hi Mark and thank you! “… a wandering with coffee..” that’s so great 😉. And so true! For Halloween I plan to enjoy something sweet and watch a Pixar Halloween ‘short’. That’s my top speed regarding ghoulies 😁🎃☠️. Happy Halloween and de los muertos tomorrow!
