“So the darkness shall be the light, and the stillness the dancing.” – T.S. Eliot
“To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders.” – Lao Tzu
“Whenever you deeply accept this moment as it is — no matter what form it takes — you are still, you are at peace.” – Eckhart Tolle
This painting began as an assignment; “Paint as the neutral observer instead of the creative director.” My mind immediately wanted to have at least an outline, a subject, an assignment, and a deadline. It was beside itself. No plan? That was fine for daily life, but how do you create without an idea, without seeing it in your mind, first? It was two months before I could even sit down to work. I needed to discover what this meant…….
This was a journey into discovering an inner stillness, and the true creativity within the present moment.
In the present moment, in the stillness, is everything I need to know. Listening, and then responding is a rhythm in alignment within our very being, without the mental chatter and its judgements. It didn’t happen overnight, but a time came when the hostages were set free, and there was acceptance, peace, and the joy of creating in the present moment. Not simply for art, but in each and every moment.
– Thank you.
Definitely worth waiting for a beautiful piece of art 🌹

Hi, darling! Lovely to see more beautiful work coming from your hand… I haven’t lost my focus on putting “Compassion” on my first available wall — but the half of the trailer in which I’m more or less camping which would accommodate it hasn’t opened enough for me even to get in there. To tell you the truth it’s looking like maybe never on that, which means my next focus will be obtaining a working unit to put on this perfectly beautiful little piece of heaven that I look out onto and write here. Stand by — pedaling as hard as I can 😙

Love this! I can see both stillness and movement in this piece–the artist holding still and creation taking place around him–bubbling up from the edges.

What a beautiful interpretation, and YES!! Thank you so much! The artist represents each and all of us and all possibilities held in each moment, IF we stay still in our minds and pay attention. Hopefully there are many personal interpretations of this painting, …..and I thank you again for your inspired insight!

I cannot see this painting, as I am blind, but your have created a powerful, powerful title. I love your description of how you came to paint this, and the title conjures up all kinds of images in my mind. You painted those as effectively with words as you do with brushes. Assuming these were painted with brushes, of course, and not a program. The title conjures a sense of calm, as though you’ve used calming colors, muted colors, colors that call to the stillness within all of us. It is, quite frankly, beautiful.
