I enjoyed the peaceful experience of my recent creative doodle exploration in my last post, and decided to “give-it-a-go,” again.
Wherever you are, it’s the place you need to be.
Maxime Lagacé

I experience the process as meditative, or like doodling tai-chi. I also have a sense of joyful anticipation, like unwrapping a gift. “What surprises will I find in this one?” It really is a lot of fun just letting it happen.
Wherever you are, be there totally.
Eckhart Tolle

This is my squiggle line that begins the process. I chose blue for my base colour since blue has always been a challenge for me, and a tricky colour to balance. After I began filling in the shapes, I thought a few of them could be plump little birds. I added the beaks. Now they really looked like birds.
I live by letting things happen.
Dogen

I like the rough and smooth texture of the conte and pastels together in this detail, like sweet and salty caramels. I observe the thoughts that drift in and out of my mind. Solutions and new ideas arrive as well.
Rest and be kind, you don’t have to prove anything.
Jack Kerouac

As the doodle began to develop into an illustration I wondered where it was going. Is this a bluebird baby shower? A chickadee maternity waiting room? Or symbolic; eggs representing rebirth and rejuvenation in the cycle of life? Maybe all of it…
There are only two ways to live your life.
Albert Einstein
One is as if nothing is a miracle.
The other is as if everything is a miracle.
The Girls Nest-Door came into my mind from somewhere. I didn’t create it but I thought the term was funny and certainly fit the story of the image. Just a happy illustration of happy chatting chicks and a happy time creating it. – Try it, you might find the process peaceful and fun too.
Thank you.
Beautiful artwork and interesting insight into your creative process. BTW, I love seeing Kerouac and Einstein together on the same stage in quotes!

This is so engaging! It reminds me of a batik and I love the indigo blue with the accenting golden yellow. Beautiful Liza!

Thanks Cathy, I love the batik similarity! Indigo blue is a favorite blue, but tricky for me. It can so easily overwhelm other colours in my perspective, so for now the others just get to offer a supportive role 😁

I love your process of doodling, and your quotes are a nice plus! I definitely want to try this. What kind of pastels do I acquire? I’m a neophyte.

Hello! I apologize, somehow I missed this lovely comment. There are many different grades of pastel from chalk to crayon to oil, and in between. My personal adventure of new materials stars with a basic set of soft pastels and a tablet of colored craft paper. If you find the adventure fun, move on to pastel paper and oil pastels (brilliant colour). Any craft store has a terrific selection 😁. There are also drawing apps that are amazing! I really like Fresco by Adobe on an iPad 👍 lots of fun there! Hope this is a start, have fun and thanks again!
